Dutch Gold Leaf - Patent Version...This Gold Leaf is actually not gold at all. It is made from Brass and has several names such as Imitation Gold Composition Leaf as well as Brass Leaf. It is considerable less expensive because there is no gold to be found in it. We carry the #2 Composition Gold which looks similar to 23 Karat Gold. Compostion is 88% Copper and 12% Zinc. Although it looks similar one should be aware that it tarnishes very quickly and must be polished and sealed with a varnish as quickly as possible. The leaves are larger 5-1/2" x 5-1/2" and are sold 25 leaves per book. This dutch gold is the first of it's kind. It is the only patent version avaialble. Patent means that the leaves are not loose requiring a gilder's tip for application. Instead it is lightly attached to a thin tissue paper which acts as a carrier so that you can easily hold the tissue by the edges and carefully apply the gold to the sized area. This is a great long overdue idea.

Manetti 23 Karat Patent Gold Leaf...Genuine Gold Leaf is available in 3-3/8" x 3-3/8" sheets referred to as leaves. Each pack contains 25 leaves. Patent Gold Leaf is lightly mounted on a thin sheet of tissue paper. The tissue allows you to lift each leaf of gold and transfer it to the area to be gilded. The tackiness of the gold size will pull the leaf off the tissue and secure it to your work. Patent Gold Leaf eliminates the need to use gilder's tips and is ideal for applying leaf to flat surface areas. Patent Gold Leaf does not work well in textured surfaces. These surfaces are better suited to Glass Gold Leaf.

The term Patent Gold Leaf refers to the light tissue backing on which the leaf is mounted. The tissue allows you to easily lift each sheet from the book and place it more precisely to the area to be gilded. The tackiness from the gold size will pull the leaf off the tissue backing and secure it to your design. A gilders tip is not necessary with patent gold leaf. Patent Gold Leaf is ideal when applying Gold Leaf to a flat surface area and is preferred in most automotive graphic applications. One book will cover 1 square foot with minimum overlap.
