My Perfect London East Shopping Trail
Only a couple of weeks, I gave some advice on a forum to a lady who was looking for a retro / vintage lighting. I suggested a trip around some of the independent boutiques and shops of East End, near London, namely, Shoreditch and Spitalfields. Later I chatted with a friend about the ad and she suggested I put an article as there were some very good ideas. I had a thought since then and have added to the original route to include some general design and style advice.
My advice would be start a Sunday mid-morning to get the best of the track and the track itself starts at busy market of Columbia Road Flower, E2. This is the place place to start if you need a little color inspiration and you will not be disappointed by the choice of small shops and creative shops in the region. My favorites are 2 Columbia Road for parts for vintage and WAWA sofas. If you fancy a pint, there is the Royal Oak pub (which is a roast wicked through Sunday - reservations required). However, you will find all sorts of vintage furniture and lighting, potted shrimp and Jewelry with contemporary accessories.
Head out of Columbia Road and left onto Hackney Road and right into Kingsland Road. Just after the railway bridge on the left is the lifestyle Baazar which offers a wide range of classical pieces and contemporary design, chairs and lamps for Kartell smaller gifts. Back the same way and head to Shoreditch High Street on the right where you'll find the new store Squint. It is a charming boutique, where old furniture - chairs, sofas, lamps and frames are given in relation to the treatment with new and recycled fabrics.
Cross the road to squint and move towards Redchurch Street where you will find a caravan on the left for some quirky home accessories. A little further and you can stop for a well deserved rest on the edge - the latest venture by Terrence Conran. Whether sipping a coffee on the floor Albion or perhaps the head for the roof on a sunny day to indulge in a cocktail or glass of wine.
After a pit stop, it's further along Redchurch Street to Bethnal Green Road with its Sunday flea market (a market very informal truth). A Brick Lane, turn left and visit Unto This Last. They make wonderful and unusual furniture that would look great in any home. Then head back around Bethnal Green Road in the main artery Brick Lane. Here, you may be tempted to stop again in a number of coffees you stroll along. Individual stores are too many to be quoted by name, but here you will find anything from leather skins for clothing and retro vintage furniture second hand electrical goods (and almost nothing in the middle!).
As you arrive at the Old Truman Brewery, take a look at the Sunday market to one off the tracks before heading west, Commercial Street and Spitalfields Market. This weekend is more stable in London market and you will certainly be spoiled choice. My guess is that at this moment, you may just need a taxi to help you carry all the shopping home!
