High Self Esteem Through Creative Writing

I believe that creativity is closely linked to higher self-esteem and emotional healing - at least for some of us. When I started to feel good about myself and trust me and do not carry luggage so old, I started to write and be ready to take me seriously enough to write a book.

The Funny thing is when I was in school, I loved my English classes, but has been criticized by teachers for my ability to speak well of what we read, but my very limited writing ability.

I write poems, essays and little comments about life. Now, I love all of my writing. I see writing as another creative empowerment.

Hair Stories

Honey

I was 2 or 3. I lived in an apartment on E. Orange, New Jersey in a shop - a pharmacy that my mother worked in my father was absent in the army. My father was in Europe in the army of the Second World War. I lived with my nervous, uncertain mother and her roommate, Joan.

I remember walking between the apartment of our neighbor, an old lady named White, and my apartment. Sometimes my white hair combed headgear. I remember two braids fell on my head. The hair came with her love honey - Honey, because it was mild and he clung to me when I went home where a more nervous, down-to-fact kind of love lived.

Papa shoulders

One of my favorite things to do was sit on my father's shoulders, as he sat on the couch and fix her hair. I used barrettes and hair pins (remember those?) - Perhaps even bows. He let me comb and play with her as long as I wanted. My mother was impatient and I never even asked. She felt too unattractive.

I felt like floating in a bubble of security cocoon - just me and him. There is a girl version of a spa with your closest friend.

It's a bit exaggerated to call it a history of hair. It is actually about a hair clip and my experience brilliant 4-year deal with electricity. (Oh My mother did her hair, so it actually benefits.)

My mother was sitting her dressing table to comb her hair. (Does anyone have a dressing over? They seem to mean a slowdown time when women were not in a race to be beautiful and be at the door. They took their time to sit down and be nice. And they even took the time to "skirts" on the dressing table.) I was hanging out on the floor watching when I saw a hairpin. I thought: "I wonder if this turns if I put it in the socket? "So I tried it. Wow! Ouch! Fire came out and burned my hand. I spent the whole day lying on the bed with my mother helps me to put my hand in ice water, it would not hurt and blister. It was too cold. It did with me to make me want to do more. He blistered anyway and I have never forgotten what is in the form.

The permanent

I had great hair stiff when I was a child, and being a woman, I wanted curls. Sometimes I bug my mother enough for her to put it into shreds, but these loops is released immediately. A couple of times my mother would leave a permanent basis in a beauty salon, because Toni, she gave me, always came out in some days and they were very fragrant, too. Not only that, but my mother has all the thumbnails so it was not very similar to the picture shows it is. The players were twisted and falling.

I think this is the second category, and we were having our photos taken and my mother agreed to let me go to Salon Pleasantdale to get a permanent. I was very in love with my teacher in Grade 2 Miss Sokely, and wanted to look especially wonderful day for the photo. I have this image somewhere in my pile of photos. My Bangs (cut by my father with a cloth on my forehead) were directly and the rest of my hair was straight into my ears when it came out in big curls Standing. On top of this table feminine pulchritude off, I missed some of my front teeth. Do I think I look pretty enough for Miss Sokely? Although this seems like a major event at the time, I do not remember. There is something for me to learn here. Whatever happens today, in 50 years, I do not remember.

Wig

Oh, my poor too self-conscious 21-years! In the early sixties wigs were "in" - especially for black women. My father sold clothes and wigs to black women almost exclusively door-to-door. And he has sold wigs. Lots of wigs. Sometimes I was forced to work with him and he made me wear a blonde wig! Can you imagine me in a blonde wig? I could not more.

But this was my own hair very dark, almost black hair wig. My boyfriend and later her first husband in the head I should have one and he bought me and my father gave me as a gift. Of course, I felt the love. But the port was another story! I hated him! I knew everybody was watching me and thinking how I looked weird. But I tell my boyfriend? Well course not. I managed to convince him that it was appropriate in situations very dressy. And then they asked me to be bridesmaid for my friend. And my friend would bring me the wig. I did. I had the worst time I've ever had in my life. I in stress at 100% throughout the marriage. I even put another dress to change into after the ceremony to try to convince me that it was the dress that stressed me. But it was the wig. I shlepped this wig along on my honeymoon in Europe. I have never worn, I just shlepped. I do not remember what eventually happened to this - how I'm having to please him and force me to wear it. I know he was very few times. I know it was long time ago when I finally left in 1980. He probably just got tired of worrying about the wig. And the funny thing is that long, beautiful, almost black real hair.

Braid

I was what I call a hippy "middle class". I wore long dresses exclusively for 3 years while my husband went to work as a programmer in a daily activity. I long hair and necessary we belonged to a somewhat exotic spiritual organization that completely freaked my parents.

I loved wearing my hair in two ponytails or long long braid. I looked so "in" and exotic. It took 3 years to grow my hair long enough to have a braid that has touched my waist. It took a whole day to dry my hair when I washed moisture NJ. It was a real challenge to have hair like that. I had two small children - a baby who is chubby little hands to heart to take my long hair.

One day I was driving around running errands-mom as a mother of two children and a woman, I got it! This braid damn kept feeling a lump of coal stuck in middle of my back while I ran around and tried to keep a 2 year old child and a child of 6 years killing me from the backseat. I returned on Friday and told my husband I had to cut it. I called around to local beauty salons, but women have been booked for an appointment with strength on Saturday. We left the children with my parents and went in Greenwich Village that night and I found a beauty salon a few famous open until midnight, which would make my hair. All operators are standing around the whole man who cut my hair in a pixie cut! And here I am at 66 thinking more and more braided again!

Hair Dye

And then is the story of my death my hair. When I was about 30ish, I started having a bit of a gray stripe on the front of my hair. I somehow loved him. Never thought of death - be the Mother Earth and all that type. Until I met Barbara D. I gave lots of power and thought I'd try to cover gray and a red glance. Why did I listen to her? I did it because I thought it knew.

Dying my hair is a big pain in the neck. My black hair is very dark. Roots were not as they seem to be today. But I think his roots with dark blond hair and mine was the hand anyway. I dyed my hair for about 12 years until one day I dyed it and I had a very bad allergic reaction. The light went on! I am the illegitimate daughter. Dying my hair does not go with me. Thank you for the message, God. I'll let it grow. But it's ugly. First thing I did was cut and use a brush to cover the roots. And it seemed worse. So I went to a beauty salon and asked the owner who had a long deletion natural gray hair and dark herself if she could do something to cover temporarily while it grew in. She said she could. And my hair turned green and pink! I had cut very, very short and have survived until the dye is born.
