What is Lock Bumping?
Lock bumping may be returned to lock picking lesser known cousin. This a familiar term at best. It is, however, at least as big problem as picking locks, and perhaps even more sinister that it implies. Bumping is a type of lock picking. Instead of lock picking tools so typical, all that is needed is the use of a bump key. It has, therefore, the potential of being much more sinister than picking lock.
One of the biggest problems is that some locks are free from lock bumping. Because most of the locks work on the same principle. The most common type = "target _blank" title = "Schlage Locks from Popular Hardware"> lock, found on all homes and businesses in the world, is the pine-and-tumbler lock. To understand how lock bumping works, it helps to understand how a PIN code and system functions rocker.
The interior of each pin and lock Tumbler is a cylinder (or cylinder key). The interior of the cylinder is a chamber (the plug) containing stacks of pine. The pins in it vary in length. When the correct key is inserted into the cylinder, the ridges or teeth on the button corresponding to the pins inside. Rotation of the key causes the pin to spring apart and making the rotation. This rotation releases the lock of the door jamb.
Trying to insert the wrong key will produce one of two results. Either key will be not enter the cylinder at all, or it enters the cylinder, but will not be able to turn the cap, because the game is incorrect.
Old-School Lock Picking usually requires a wide range of tools. Lock bumping, however, requires only one special key. A key lock bump like a door regular keys. It would be unlikely to draw any suspicion, should it be used for illegal entry into a house.
For profane, a bump key could pass for a regular key. Closer examination, however, it appeared that the teeth (or edges) and the notches are even. All the cuts in fact have made the maximum depth. They may also be referred to as "key dummy" or "999" buttons. The number "999" is derived from the fact that the cuts are all aimed at a depth of nine.
Opening a lock the door with a key 999 is not as simple as just inserting and turning. It takes a special meaning and a degree of practice, as the former lock picking it.
What is disturbing about lock bumping is that only two tools are necessary: a key 999 and a small tool "hump." a so-called criminals attract attention and even less of himself with a bump key with a set of locksmith tools.
Two other major factors increase the likelihood that home and business or commercial property owners will become the target of a bumper lock:
1) Lock bumping can be learned from the Internet. Unfortunately, the World Wide Web is full of procedures for the teaching of this video practice.
2) bump keys can be purchased easily on the Internet. It is almost as easy as finding how to make videos.
Home and business owners find themselves in a vulnerable position. However, there are property owners on things can do to protect themselves:
* Use a deadbolt lock in addition to a cylindrical or other type of door lock. Deadbolt locks are much more difficult Humpback than other types of locks. Using these two types has long been recommended by locksmiths and security experts anyway. This is a good case for doing so.
* Use an after market product. Anti-bumping products can be purchased in hardware stores and online. They are almost always worth the expense for the extra protection they provide.
* Buy locks Anti-shock. Many lock manufacturers have come to recognize the magnitude of the problem. They have begun to produce extra anti-lock pick and anti-bump elements built right into it
By using one or more of these methods, the owners may reduce their chances of becoming victims of Lock bumping fifty percent or more.
